Many test methods have preferred sufficient sample volumes and preservation requirements. Please see our Containers, Preservations, Holding Times table for common methods and parameters. Please contact your Project Manager for any questions regarding our reference guide.
Soil Analysis
Soil/ Solids Methods
Hazardous Waste Methods
ASI provides expert soil analysis for a variety of general and specialized soil testing needs. Of special note is our standard practice using TerraCore™ soil sampling containers with water/freezing as the preservative for soil VOC analysis. While this does require freezing of the water preserved samples within 48 hours of sampling, it eliminates the well documented problems with creation of artifact acetone and carbon disulfide resulting from acidifying many soil types with sodium bisulfate.
Areas of expertise:
- Initial Site Characterization
- Evaluation of Remedial Alternatives
- Post-excavation/confirmation sampling
- Evaluation of Disposal Options
Targeted compounds:
- Volatile and Semi-volatile Organics
- Pesticides
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
- Herbicides
- Petroleum Analysis
- Trace Metals
- Inorganics including Cyanide, Sulfide, Hexavalent Chromium and Ignitability
Hazardous Waste Characterization and Leaching Potential Studies
ASI provides complete RCRA waste characterization services. The latest SW846 methods are employed to determine each characteristic property including toxicity, ignitability, corrosivity and free liquid content. While still commonly requested, methods for reactive cyanide and sulfide are no longer available. These were removed from SW846 many years ago due to their ineffectiveness at producing reliable values. As stated in SW846, EPA relies “solely” on a prose description of reactivity based on generator knowledge. ASI can provide analyses for Total Cyanide and Total Sulfide to confirm the absence of these reactive components.
ASI also provides full service Synthetic Precipitation Leaching Procedure (SPLP) testing. Full compound lists are available for most materials at standard low level groundwater reporting limits for your risk assessment needs.
Quick turnaround times are available for your urgent waste characterization needs.
